What Makes Stratton Equities Successful - Message from Our CEO

Every successful company is run by someone who understands how crucial it is for every team member to succeed, but unfortunately, the mortgage lending industry often prevents that. Stratton Equities’ CEO, Michael Mikhail, created his business to disrupt the mortgage industry and build a business structure that operates on the success of all parties.

From Loan Officer to CEO 


In 2017, Michael returned to the United States after traveling to 19 countries in 5 years and ended up homeless. He was looking to change his life and search for his next ample opportunity. In 2003, he had previously worked in the mortgage lending industry and decided to seek out employment. As he couldn’t get a position at a traditional lending firm as he hadn’t been licensed in quite some time due to traveling, he landed at a private lending institution and became a mortgage loan officer.


This experience highlighted the problems and showed him what wasn’t working in the mortgage industry.


He saw that the problems that loan officers faced were broken down into 4 areas:


  • Finding, Sustaining, and Converting Quality Leads

  • Access to an ample supply of a variety of High Demand Mortgage Loan products 

  • Lack of Upper Management Involvement and Support

  • In-house Training and Further Education 


As a loan officer, he was struggling to look for his own leads, making his own meetings, all while spending his own money with no guarantee of ROI. 


The largest issue was simple; he would finally receive a potential loan prospect only to discover that the company he worked for did not have the mortgage loan program that the borrower needed, subsequently having to let go of the lead.

Michael noticed how the mortgage industry had transformed after the regulations presented from 2008-2012, and knew it was time to set out something on his own, thus launching Stratton Equities in 2018.


Where one might see failure, Michael sees success and has gone through his life with that reality. Everything successful for him came from an experience of loss. These issues and frustrations that he experienced, became the foundation on which Michael Mikhail built Stratton Equities. He developed his company by solving the needs of his sales team - without a good team, a business fails.

The Problem with the Mortgage Industry - Loan Officers are Setup to Fail


When Michael Mikhail was working as a loan officer, it was made evident to him, that the structure of a business in the mortgage lending industry was set up for loan officers to fail.


There would always be more salespeople vying to be loan officers coming through like a revolving door and with a quick turnaround. It didn’t seem as though the company cared for the direct success of their loan officers or sustaining business from prospective borrowers. 


The quality and conversion of leads were resting on whether or not the company he was working for had the right loan products available to provide them.


Most mortgage lending companies offer a limited selection of mortgage loan programs to choose from. With money as well as real estate being such a complex matter, it isn’t too surprising that borrowers need a wide array of options.


As a result, many of his potential leads couldn’t find the right fit at the company he worked for. This caused Michael to turn away countless leads, which only further frustrated him. 


However, this became the beginning of Stratton Equities - a business where loan officers are setup to succeed and therefore everyone succeeds.
